The Evolution Of The All American Outdoor Living Space Deck

If you look back in American history, you may be surprised to find that outdoor decks as a common fixture of today’s home only goes back seven decades.

About the time that Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz premiered “I Love Lucy” on the CBS television network, decks were just starting to pop up here in the United States.

Moving It Outside With Extended Living Spaces

Originally decks were a new outdoor space to visit. Many people who used to sit on their front porches were starting to realize that backyard decks offered a little more privacy. This trend picked up momentum as we headed into the 1960s as John F. Kennedy was elected President of the United States.

Then by the time that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to arrive on the Moon during NASA's Apollo 11 mission, decks became the new must have home improvement.

All of a sudden, it was nice to head outside after dinner for some fresh air without having to witness street traffic and passersby if one was not in the mood.

Decks By Archadeck Outdoor Living

As homeowners were heading to the store to stock up on holiday sparklers to ring in America’s Independence Day festivities in 1980, one person was creating the concept for what would become North America’s #1 outdoor deck builder – Archadeck.

With necessity often being the Mother of Invention, that axiom rang true as families who were having new homes built were discovering that builders only wanted to build the home – and not furnish the outdoors with any sort of deck. Usually a concrete pad or stoop was the norm. That was it.

Hence, one by one, new house after new house, the most beautiful and original decks started to appear.

It was only a matter of time for the idea to catch on like wildfire and Archadeck became the successful franchise that it is today, with locations virtually in every major metropolitan area in America.

Archadeck Of NE Dallas Southlake Grows To Become The Area’s Premiere Deck Builder

Agustin and Amanda Garza, local owners and operators of Archadeck here in the NE Dallas Southlake area, have built an incredible business designing and constructing the great all American deck throughout neighborhoods all over town.

They realized the dire need for outdoor leisure extensions of the home interior. In fact, they said, “A backyard without a deck is missing something – and we’re here to fill that void – in style, and with great added value”.

It all starts with a complimentary design consultation where they discuss what families are looking for in their deck design.

Outdoor seating for relaxing after dinner?

Alfresco dining under the stars?

Creating the new party place for neighborhood friends and family?

With Archadeck, the answers are usually “Yes, Yes, and Yes.”

Building a deck is not as simple as it used to be years ago when decks were just starting to become a critical component of the American fabric.

With advances in engineering and design, and improvements in synthetic decking, there is now a wide variety of material options to choose from.

Choosing your decking material and color is the first decision, but there are many more. You need to decide on the size and shape of the deck, location of the stairs, and the railing type and color.

To help you through these choices that will provide years of long-term enjoyment and increased functionality, we will use your property layout and lifestyle as a way to help guide you through our many years of experience. The personal service you get with Archadeck of Northeast Dallas-Southlake, a custom outdoor living space deck design and build firm, is top notch from the first call until well after post construction clean up.

What Is The Best Decking Material For My Deck?

That’s a good question, and one that will easily be answered during your complimentary design consultation.

We will review all of the options available and guide you to making the best decision based on how you plan to use the deck as an extension of your current living space.

When custom decks from Archadeck were first custom designed and constructed, the material of choice was pressure treated lumber. Pressure-treated is a process that extends the longevity of the wood considerably, adding decades to the life of the material.

Pressure-treated wood differs from the untreated variety due to the fact that it's treated by a special process that imparts characteristics such as resistance to the elements, damage, and moisture. Its common use is in the construction of decks, poles, boardwalks and playgrounds.

Still a popular choice today, other wood favorites include cedar, redwood, and tropical hardwoods, like Ipe – all sure to add value to your home.

And Then Came Carefree Low-Maintenance Synthetic Decking

Both low-maintenance decking are popular today in America because they're virtually maintenance free. Both types are extremely weather-resistant, easy to clean, and neither will ever splinter, warp, cup, or rot. And they don't require sanding or staining.

Composite decking has been around since the early 1990s. Many popular brands are made from 50 percent wood fibers and 50 percent recycled plastic. Composite decking is a solid color all the way through, so the ends of the boards are not as noticeable. It's stiffer than PVC decking boards and can span greater distances.

PVC decking was introduced earlier in the late 1980s. With similar low maintenance attributes as composite decking, PVC artificial decking has made the dream of building an outdoor gathering space more affordable and accessible for homeowners than ever before.
