Keeping The Rain And Falling Debris Away While Letting The Sun Shine In Is The Ticket For This Dallas Backyard

The historic district of Dallas, Texas, is a vibrant area that showcases the city's rich history and cultural heritage. The district is primarily located in the downtown area and is home to numerous well-preserved buildings, landmarks, and sites that provide a glimpse into Dallas' past.

Take, for example, this classically design family home which previously only had an open air deck to enjoy as their outdoor living space.

Before.

This family was looking for a way to recreate the look of their home exterior; and adding a new outdoor living area with overhead protection checked a few boxes.

A New Soft, Lemon Yellow Exterior Serves As The Perfect Backdrop For This Multi-Functional Covered Deck

The blank canvas surrounding this sweet family bungalow, previously painted white, was reinvigorated with a brilliant rendition of lemon yellow exterior paint.

To accent and contrast the new exterior color of the home, we chose to design and build the family’s reinvented outdoor living space using cedar.

Instead of an enclosed outdoor living room, the family wanted to be able to enjoy beautifully sunny days and fresh breezes, with the benefit of having overhead protection when needed.

Our design solution was this beautiful and expansive cedar pergola with something extra special: a translucent pergola roof cover to protect the family while enjoying the newly reimagined outdoor deck space.

Why cedar as the building material choice? With an unlimited lifespan for durability, cedar is naturally insect- and rot-resistant. The natural oils and resins making up cedar wood make it less likely to decay or become infested with insects, even when exposed to the variety of weather elements we have here in Dallas.

Generous In Size, This Pergola Is The New Hit Of The Neighborhood

Using the existing deck that was already in place, we attached the pergola structure with Sky Lifts using standard end Legacy cuts. The new protected structure now measures 17 feet by 19 feet and houses a wonderful assortment of overstuffed all-weather outdoor furniture.

To complement the home’s newly painted exterior, we chose to stain the cedar Burnt Hickory. The pergola roof cover also augmented that color palette by allowing us to install a bronze toned Polygal roof cover.

This renowned polycarbonate gives our client family a beautiful and effective way to allow light to naturally illuminate the outdoor covered deck while allowing versatile control of natural light, heat and shade. Importantly, Polygal pergola deck roof covers eliminate 99% of potentially harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun, which make it the optimal overhead protection cover.
