The Sky’s The Limit With This Innovative Shaded Patio Using Skylift Technology

You know how they say you have to break some eggs to make an omelet?

Well, rest assured that none were broken here. In fact, we totally raised the roof to create a stunning pergola with Skylift technology, beautifying and protecting this new Carrollton, TX, shaded outdoor living space.

Turning A Simple Small Wooden Deck And Patio Into An Outdoor Palace

You could say that this outdoor living project transformation is an outdoor oasis on steroids. It has so many amazing features, we don’t even know where to start. So here goes.

Functionality: This was job one for the homeowners. They wanted to improve the space they already had by adding maximum functionality, so we removed the small deck they had, replaced it with a new one, and lengthened it with a new stain and stamp hardscape. This gives them much more room for everyone to enjoy.

Shade: The family figuratively baked when the summer sun hit the rear of the home, so we built a custom pergola patio cover. To install it, we took advantage of Skylift roof riser technology.

We chose Skylift because with unique home roof situations like this, we needed easier access and maneuverability.

The material for the pergola shade cover is cedar with a Polygal top for added protection. Why Polygal?

1. It’s available in standard colors, as well as special color layers that selectively reflect solar radiation

2. Topgal’s rigid structure provides strength under wind and snow loads

3. It’s waterproof

4. Topgal panels can have UV protection on both sides or on the tooth side, upon customer request

5. It’s covered by a 10-Year Warranty for color, light transmission, and strength

Under it, we added a fan and an electrical outlet to allow the homeowners to add glimmering, festive party lights.

Stain And Stamp Patio Hits The Mark

As we often do down here in Texas, the foundation for this recreation was a stain and stamp patio underneath it all for this U-shaped outdoor space using our flagstone pattern with natural colors of pecan tan, terra cotta, and natural browns. Just stunning.

The siding wall was also redone with new Hardie board siding; and we repainted it as well to accent the new design of the space. It now complements the color ways of the patio and the variegated brick exterior of the home.

Designing For Function And Long-Term Enjoyment

Our design philosophy begins with functionality. Traffic flow is taken into consideration for the best functional use of the deck space. Pattern changes in the floorboards or structural elements such as pergolas are used to define separate “rooms.” We examine your specific needs. We even take your current outdoor furniture into account — because a picnic table needs a different deck than a round umbrella table would.
