Archadeck of Central SC Discusses How a Successful Outdoor Living Combination Space Goes Together Like Peas and Carrots!

When it comes to gaining the most benefit out of something, it stands to reason that combining two or more of what you like will bring you the most enjoyment. Examples of the power behind combinations are evident in many everyday things. For instance, just within the food and drink realm many of the combinations we take for granted include the successful pairing of a loaded baked potato as a companion to a steak, wine and cheese, apple pie and vanilla ice cream, and even peas and carrots! Respectfully, many of the things we enjoy have a second or third accompaniment to make them even more decadent, so why should our outdoor living spaces be any different?

Combination projects are a great way to create more space for more versatility and enjoyment, and by combining one or more outdoor structures you can designate different areas within them for different purposes. During the initial consultation with our clients, one of the first questions we ask  is “how do you intend to use the space?” Without getting the answer to this important question, the design won’t be as good as it can be. Though the answer varies with each client, from cooking and entertaining to sunbathing, birdwatching, and relaxing, they all address the way a particular client wants to live outdoors. For many of our clients, their outdoor living spaces need to be multifunctional. If this is the case for you, Archadeck of Central SC needs to create a project with a flow that defines separate spaces for different functions.

Patio and screened porch combo space on Lake Murray, SC.

Many of our clients have chosen combination outdoor living spaces, including a deck with a screened porch or pergola, a patio with an outdoor kitchen, etc. Here are some examples of combination outdoor living space projects taken from our portfolio:

Quadruple the outdoor living pleasure in Wildewood

This combination space in the Wildewood community of East Columbia delivers the whole enchilada of outdoor living enjoyment! The flowing design incorporates a low-maintenance deck, covered porch, stamped concrete patio, outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit! The largest benefit of this layout is that each structure within can be enjoyed singularly, but when combined they create a total outdoor living environment.

Deck and Covered Porch Combination in Lexington

Prior to this addition, the only outdoor living space these Lexington homeowners had was a screened porch. Our outdoor living combination design took this backyard to a whole new level. In addition to the spacious and relaxing deck and covered porch addition, we also replaced the home’s existing rear bay window with convenient Pella doors. This made accessing the new outdoor area a breeze and unified the traffic flow of the new space with that of the screened porch.

Sunroom and deck in NE Columbia

By choosing to combine a sunroom and deck, these NE Columbia clients got the best of both worlds, an open-air space perfect for grilling and soaking in the sun and a protected space delivering panoramic views of the outdoors with constant climate control.

The airy design of the sunroom, which opens out onto the new deck, features an open-end gable abundant with windows, transoms, and a vaulted ceiling. The placement of the windows and roof pitch allows for an open and airy atmosphere with more light flowing naturally into the home’s interior.

As you can clearly see from these project images, outdoor living combinations can be used as separate rooms, or vignettes, of beauty and function. Whether it’s a pairing of two or more outdoor structures, our keen eye for design will give you a space that functions as one large, cohesive design.
