Archadeck Proves Hard Work And Humility Has Its Rewards In Acclaimed Outdoor Living Design Excellence And Innovation

Early on, after its founding in 1980, Archadeck thought that honoring and celebrating their best work deserved special attention. Hence, the Archadeck Design Excellence Awards were established to honor the creativity and forward-thinking of our best and brightest franchisees.

Knowing how coveted this honor is, you could imagine the look on Patrick Sluss’ face when he heard the news that he won not one, but two Design Excellence Awards.

APPLAUSE AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IS TWICE AS NICE WHEN IT COMES FROM YOUR PEERS

Our Akron outdoor living design and build team takes immense pride in seeing our custom design work honored by our peers within the Archadeck franchise system.

The Archadeck Design Excellence Award is given four times a year, once each quarter, and those quarterly winners are entered into the annual design contest.

The sought-after honor is presented to Archadeck locations in three different outdoor living project categories: Decking Projects, Hardscape/Patio Projects and Porch/Room Projects.

From these winners, an overall Design Excellence Award winner is selected by a collective vote of all of the Archadeck locations nationwide. Winners of the Grand Prize are announced in January at their annual national Outdoor Living Brands convention.

PATRICK SLUSS – DESTINED FOR OUTDOOR LIVING EXCELLENCE

patrick sluss outdoor living space expert

It all started with a passion and interest in building from a young age. Growing up, Patrick was surrounded by several family members who were in construction; and he always loved watching and learning about what they were doing.

As hard as it may be to believe, at age 12 he did all of the electrical work on his parent’s kitchen remodel!

During summers in high school, Patrick worked for an uncle who owns a small remodeling company. During his junior and senior year at Jackson High School, he enrolled in their construction technology program and earned college credits.

While in high school, his love for construction turned into the creation of a small remodeling company, Sluss Construction. Small repairs turned into remodels which turned into whole-house renovations.

So when Patrick learned of the Archadeck Outdoor Living franchise opportunity in Akron, it seemed as if destiny was calling as he had been unconsciously preparing for that coveted role virtually all of his life.

HERE IS WHAT OUTDOOR LIVING DESIGN EXCELLENCE LOOKS LIKE – IN TWO PARTS

Part One: Award Winning covered patio project in Kent, OH.

cover patio contractors

Our clients wanted a covered space they could enjoy regardless of summer heat or scattered rain showers. As you can see, we designed this covered paver patio with that function in mind. When the sun beats down on Kent, you’ll find these homeowners outdoors enjoying their shaded patio and the breeze from a ceiling fan.

When pop-up rain showers send others running inside for cover, these homeowners can stay outside, dining or relaxing, protected by a sturdy roof.

A gorgeous outdoor living project to behold, it features back-door comfort and ease fashioned with front-door aesthetics.

The curved paver steps, flanked by columns, present an elegant entry at the rear of the home that’s graceful enough to be their front entrance.

The covered patio addition frames the back of the home and creates a comfortable setting designed for pure relaxation. In case there’s any doubt about that intention, you need look no farther than the hammock!

Part Two: Award Winning covered porch and patio project for under $25,000.

This location is in Streetsboro, OH and is part of a phased-building project. Archadeck of Akron is now working on a paver patio for this homeowner.

Materials used on this porch project were pressure treated pine, featuring a pine interior porch ceiling. Trim matching the existing home exterior was used, along with pine vertical board siding on the inside of the space.

The design is stepped back and cantilevered to make sure it covers the setback area.

The challenge was successfully met to design and build an addition that could shine in the relatively small backyard that brought with it some setback considerations.

The family wanted a relaxed space to refresh the area – and we diligently created a new design to beautifully transform and reinvent what they had.
