At Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham and the Greater Triangle, we have a dual mission of creating high-quality outdoor living spaces and providing high-quality customer service. We understand many homeowners feel nervous about embarking on a home construction project and may have had a bad experience in the past. We are a professional design and build firm that specializes in outdoor structures. Drawing upon our depth of knowledge and our commitment to our clients, we always try to customize the best deck, porch, and patio designs to accommodate our clients’ needs, aesthetics, and budget limits. Our team will advise you on different options and the benefits of each to “right-size” a project just for you.

Right Size Outdoor Living in Raleigh

The size and scope of your new deck, porch, patio or combination outdoor space needs to be right for you, your home, your property, and your budget. How do you know what size you’ll need? There are a few factors to consider when deciding how large or how small to go.

  1. The size of your property.

Are you in a newer subdivision with cozy lots? You may not want to give up too much of your yard by creating a massive deck or porch. (Also you may be limited in how large you can expand given the impervious surface limits of your property.) In the picture to the right, we created a unique custom deck that wraps around a screened porch nestled in the corner of our client’s home. The deck utilizes the space well and is a perfect size for the yard.

  1. The relationship to existing outdoor structures.

If you already have a deck or screened porch and are adding more outdoor living space to it, this gives us a starting point for scale. For instance, when adding a deck outside of a screened porch, the proportions need to be balanced. Go too big or too small, and the design won’t be cohesive.

  1. Your needs

Your goals are our goals. For example, if you have a large three-season room that you adore, but you want an adjacent open-air space to grill, we will likely recommend a patio or deck addition. We’ll also counsel you on size, so that you have enough room to grill comfortably while staying visually balanced with the existing three-season room. If you think you may want space for more than just grilling—such as to entertain or place dining furniture—we’ll forecast the square footage required for that as well and leave the choice up to you.

  1. Impervious surface limits.

In the Raleigh area, each municipality has impervious surface limits to protect local water sources. During the design phase, we always check and work within the parameters of specific impervious limits. Sometimes that gives us certain design constraints, like having to build a smaller patio than a client wants, but at Archadeck of Raleigh, we have creative solutions to help solve the problem. We’ll work diligently to propose a new space that meets your needs and fits within your budget while considering impervious surface limits.

The differences you’ll enjoy by working with Archadeck are plenty, but the bottom line is YOU. We focus on you: what you need, what you want, and your budget. We focus on your satisfaction and keeping you informed of what to expect.
