Screened-in porches are a lovely Southern tradition. They provide much-needed shade from hot summer days and allow cool breezes to pass through while keeping pesky bugs at bay. But one thing they don’t do well is protecting your outdoor living space from pollen. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, then you may find that an Eze-Breeze three-season room is your solution.
That’s what one Raleigh family found worked well for them. Our clients, whose project is pictured here, loved their gorgeous screened-in porch with beautiful tile flooring, but they were not using it as much as they had intended. During the pollen season, allergies were keeping the family indoors, so the screened-in porch was of little use. When they came to us with their problem, we recommended they replace their screens with the Eze-Breeze clear vinyl window system.
Eze-Breeze vinyl windows are one of our most popular products. They offer the flexibility of closing your porch with windows and allowing ventilation with screens when needed. Even if you don’t suffer from seasonal allergies, having the ability to close windows on the porch means you don’t have to clean up as much pollen each spring and you can use your outdoor living space for more of the year.
How the Eze-Breeze Window System Works on Your Porch
Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham can install Eze-Breeze windows on an open porch or a screened-in porch. We can also incorporate them into the design of a new porch that we design and build for you. Eze-Breeze windows are custom-fitted to your space and include screens. The windows themselves are made of a strong, ultra-clear vinyl that is not foggy or blurry, so you have a clear view of the outdoors at all times. One great feature of Eze-Breeze windows is that the frames and vinyl are available in different colors. This can allow you to better match your home design with the frames and also increase the tint of your windows if too much sunlight is a concern.
What makes this system exceptional is that each window panel slides open to reveal the screen. You can open as many panels as you’d like and have up to 75% of the window panels open at once. This flexibility gives you great control of airflow through the porch. When you choose to close all of the windows, the Eze-Breeze porch functions more like a sunroom (without central heating and air conditioning). Some of our clients make the porch comfortable during colder weather by using a small space heater, giving them the ability to enjoy their porch year-round.
One more advantage of the Eze-Breeze system is that you can remove all of the window panels completely if you choose. This is a terrific option during the summer or early fall when you want 100% screens and no windows. Just take all of the windows off and store them until cooler weather approaches.
How to Care for Your Eze-Breeze Porch Windows
Eze-Breeze clear vinyl windows are designed to tilt inward in order to make cleaning easy. While the system comes with a lifetime warranty on the frames and parts and a 10-year warranty on the vinyl, you do need to be careful when cleaning the windows. The most important thing to remember is not to use a cleaner meant for glass windows. Using the wrong cleaner could damage the vinyl and void your warranty. PGT, the company that makes Eze-Breeze, sells a specific product for cleaning the vinyl windows and they recommend using it to extend the life of the windows.
