Fire Feature Builder
Outdoor Fire Pit Design And Installation
If you’re looking to truly take your outdoor space to the next level, an outdoor fire feature will do just that. Not only does it offer warmth in the chilly months, but it also adds quite a captivating element to your property – and in some cases gives you the option to roast marshmallows! Whether you are looking for a fire pit or an outdoor fireplace, our team of outdoor fire pit contractors at Archadeck Outdoor Living is here to help.
Archadeck designs and installs custom fire pits and outdoor fireplaces, and your builder can help you weigh wood against gas. Placement comes first, though. Clearances, ventilation, and local code decide what can go where, so those questions get settled during design, not after the stonework is up.
If you simply want to add a fire feature to your backyard, we can certainly do just that; check out our gallery to see backyard firepit ideas. However, we can also incorporate various fire features into the designs of other outdoor structures, such as patios, decks, and hardscapes.

Our professional team can help you find the best feature that suits your needs and fits your style preferences. We can discuss the pluses and minuses of each option to make sure you are fully informed before we ever start any work.
The Importance of Professional Fireplace Installation
When dealing with anything involving gas or fire – or in this case, both – it’s crucial that you have a trained, professional team on the job to make sure the installation meets all the safety requirements. Fire Pit and Fireplace Questions
How far should a fire pit be from a house?
Two sources decide: the manufacturer's instructions and your local fire code, and the stricter one controls. The model International Fire Code lists 25 feet for open recreational fires, with an exception for portable units at one- and two-family homes, and many cities change the numbers. Check your manual and call your local fire department before you place anything.
Can I put a fire pit on a wood deck?
Only if the unit and the deck allow it. Heat and stray sparks can scorch or ignite decking, so manufacturers often require a non-combustible base or barrier, and some prohibit use on wood decks entirely. Read the manual first.
What is the difference between a wood-burning and a gas fire pit?
Wood burns with smoke and throws embers. Gas units don't throw wood embers and shut off at a control, though the gas connection has to be installed correctly.

Do I need a permit for an outdoor fireplace or fire pit?
Often, particularly for permanent or gas-fueled installations, but it varies by city and county. Check with your local building and fire departments. A builder who works in your area will know what usually applies.
Why hire a professional to install a fire feature?
Gas lines, ventilation, clearances, and local code all come into play, and mistakes are hard to undo. Gas work in particular belongs with trained professionals.
