From Zero To Hero, This Small Backyard Space in Chestnut Hills Goes Big On Luxe Leisure Outdoor Living

Sometimes size isn’t everything.

Small can be beautiful if well designed, planned and executed to perfection.

Such is the case with this Auburn Hills backyard transformation.

Formerly A Hot Tub Area Changed To A Sandbox Play Area Evolving To An Outdoor Living Wonderland By Archadeck

With limited land area to make magic, Archadeck of Fort Wayne created this backyard space beautifully by designing and constructing a low maintenance AZEK deck using their TimberTech Advanced PVC Landmark Collection decking in the gorgeous color of American Walnut.

Notice the bold, character-rich texture of popular hardwoods like white oak and walnut without the rigorous maintenance of wood. That’s the genius of TimberTech Advanced PVC capped polymer decking.

This acclaimed building product features proprietary materials technology that delivers sophisticated, real wood aesthetics you’ll never have to sand, stain, or seal.

The beautifully defined perimeter is made safer with a Black Aluminum Westbury railing, which offers one of the strongest warranties in the industry.

Architectural Details That Add Exceptional Touches

The new design of this reimagined backyard also includes a walk out deck top octagonal gazebo built from pine which was stained using a solid color stain.

The deck skirting is the same TimberTech Advanced PVC Landmark Collection decking used on the deck flooring.

Interestingly enough, the Archadeck design team was able to utilize the previous hot tub/sandbox area and add more value to the project by providing plenty of storage under the new deck. It’s creative planning and forward thinking – another Archadeck hallmark.

TimberTech Advanced PVC Landmark Collection Is Honored By Good Housekeeping, The Icon Of Consumer Products Testing Excellence

What sets Good Housekeeping apart from all other women's interest magazines is that its beauty, home organizing, cleaning, nutrition, cooking and home appliance, consumer electronic, and other product recommendations are based on the expertise of the Good Housekeeping Institute.

Founded 123 years ago, the Good Housekeeping Institute was, at first, called the Good Housekeeping Experiment Station. The invention of electricity had introduced many new labor-saving home appliances but few consumers had any real knowledge of their operation and maintenance. With the goal of studying "the problems facing the homemaker and to develop up-to-date firsthand information on solving them," the staff at the Good Housekeeping Experiment Station tested products and housekeeping methods and published articles about their discoveries and observations.

More than a century later, with the wonders of cutting edge technology under its wings, TimberTech Advanced PVC Decking has been recognized for innovative sustainability with the 2023 Good Housekeeping Sustainable Innovation Award.

TimberTech’s manufacturer, AZEK, was carefully reviewed and the products received thorough testing in the Good Housekeeping labs. They first documented AZEK’s energy, water, and waste reduction; use of recycled material and future product recyclability; and overall corporate efforts to reduce carbon, waste, and more. Then, they put the products to the test for functionality, durability, and in TimberTech’s case, beauty.

Furthermore, the GH judging criteria for the Award focused on trustworthy, sustainable products that support a more sustainable lifestyle and help make and maintain a greener home.

Craig Whitman, Owner At Archadeck Of Fort Wayne, Is No Stranger To Industry Awards And Accolades

When your homeowner clients applaud you with glowing 5 star reviews, getting noticed for a job well done by your outdoor living peers is frosting on the proverbial cake.

During the 1st quarter of 2020, Craig accepted the national Archadeck Combination Project Design Excellence Award for his team’s custom-designed, multi-faceted outdoor living environment located just north of Fort Wayne.

For this project the homeowners were looking to replace their tired, old wooden deck and pergola with … something more. Yes, they wanted a new deck that had to be a low-maintenance composite deck. No more wood deck maintenance chores for this family! But that’s not all they wanted. They talked with us about their desire for a full-blown outdoor living combination project including a deck, fire pit, screened porch, patio, and outdoor kitchen/bar/entertainment area.
