When your older deck has seen better days, and you’ve postponed replacing it, your new deck will seem like a breath of fresh air! Double that if you select low-maintenance synthetic or composite decking for the new deck. Why? Because you know those good looks are not fleeting. Your low-maintenance deck is going to look as good as new for a long, long time. Even better? It will require very little work on your part to keep it looking great.
Should Your Deck Replacement Be a Low-Maintenance Upgrade?
Fort Wayne Deck Builder Archadeck of Fort Wayne encourages homeowners to consider a variety of deck replacement options, but we cannot make the decision for you. Will you build your next deck with wood, or will you choose composite or synthetic decking? As your deck design consultant, we’ll provide the information you need to make that decision.
If you prefer a wood deck, we won’t try to steer you toward composite/synthetic options. But some homeowners who want low-maintenance decking assume a composite deck will be out of reach for their budget, and that’s not always the case. Once we know what size deck you’re considering, we can help you compare the potential costs of different materials. One thing to keep in mind is that each composite decking manufacturer offers more than one price point. If one of their product lines is too much of a stretch, it’s very possible you can find a more cost-effective option with their second tier.
Fort Wayne Deck Replacement with TimberTech AZEK
The Fort Wayne homeowner whose new deck is featured here was interested in moving from wood to low-maintenance decking. They selected their new decking from TimberTech AZEK, decking boards made with a PVC core and PVC capping. TimberTech AZEK decking is backed by a 50-year limited fade & stain warranty. Like we said, this deck will look great for a long, long time.
The client chose two decking colors, one for the deck surface and one for the fascia. We designed the deck with a double picture-frame border using the complementary colors for contrast.
In addition to building the new deck, Archadeck poured a simple concrete patio at the foot of the deck stairs.
Low-Maintenance Doesn’t Mean “No Maintenance”
As your Fort Wayne deck replacement specialist, Archadeck of Fort Wayne has worked with more than a few clients making the switch from wood decks to low-maintenance decking. We remind anyone making this transition in deck care they cannot expect their composite or synthetic deck to require absolutely no maintenance.
Yes, caring for a low-maintenance deck is a lot less labor-intensive than sanding and painting or staining a wood deck every year. You will need to hose off your composite or synthetic deck periodically to keep it free from leaves and other debris. If you see the deck collecting dirt that won’t rinse off, you’ll need to wash it with soap and water. TimberTech makes a deck cleaning product, and they also recommend all-purpose cleaners if you prefer those.
Archadeck Goes Above and Beyond
It’s not unusual for Archadeck of Fort Wayne to handle an unexpected task that becomes apparent while we’re replacing an older deck. In this project, we encountered an issue with water leaking where the previous deck joined the wall of the home. We were able to repair it. The wall behind the new deck is now leak-proof, and the homeowner is thrilled with their new low-maintenance deck and concrete patio.
