When you plan a new outdoor living space from scratch, the options may seem overwhelming. You may know you want a porch, and a deck and a patio – yes, all of these. But how do they fit together? It can take a professional designer to work out the details including the layout, the proportions and the dimensions. That’s where Archadeck of Austin comes in! We love to work with your ideas and make your vision a reality. The result is the perfect custom outdoor living space designed just for you.
This Multi-Faceted Outdoor Living Space Hits All the Right Notes in Falconhead West!
These homeowners in the Falconhead West neighborhood of Bee Cave, TX, started with a blank slate when planning their outdoor space. When we arrived, they had only a concrete slab off the back of their home with a landing and stairs to the ground. When we packed up our tools and drove away, they had a covered porch, elevated deck, flagstone landing and patio and a Lueders stone walkway. Their new outdoor space for relaxation was complete – except for the hot tub. At least now they have a dedicated patio space for that hot tub when it arrives.
The clients can use their new covered porch and deck as one long, continuous space for entertaining. They can also use these areas as two separate outdoor rooms, one with a roof and one without. The advantage to this combination is that they will always have both a shaded area and an open area. Sometimes you need protection from the sun or rain, and sometimes you don’t! We built the porch ceiling with Synergy Wood, a prefinished, tongue-and-groove product that always looks amazing. A ceiling fan here in the porch guarantees a breeze.
The deck is an extension of the same flooring we used in the covered porch. For the porch floor and deck surface alike, our clients chose TimberTech/AZEK low-maintenance decking in Weathered Teak with English Walnut accents. Our design for these structures included a sleeper deck system below for drainage and ventilation. We built an extra-wide landing off the porch and deck so the homeowners can use the space under the deck. For the solid board deck skirting, we used cedar.
Archadeck Creates Beautiful Hardscapes – More Than Just a Patio!
At the bottom of the deck and porch steps is a beautiful flagstone patio with a curved seating wall. This is where the new hot tub will reside. We added a flagstone landing and a few steps down to ground level, and there we built a Lueders stone walkway along the back of the home. Stepping stones! The square Lueders stones surrounded by gravel make this a permeable walkway.
The project includes small integrated lights around the perimeter of the deck plus lighting on the stairs and in the seating wall around the patio. The outdoor lighting will increase safety after dark and create a relaxing ambiance in the area, too.
How did we do? The homeowners love the way their low-maintenance combination porch/deck/hardscape meets their needs and perfectly fits the way they want to enjoy the outdoors.
