A screened porch provides a relaxing space where a homeowner can watch the seasons change. It offers protection against sun, rain, and insects, and – when heated properly – makes it easy for a homeowner to experience the beauty of the outdoors in a comfortable temperature. As a top-rated Apex deck builder, Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham recently completed a comprehensive screen porch, deck, and paver patio project. Our Apex porch builder team upgraded the home’s deck, added a screened porch, and connected the patio to the backyard.
A primary goal of the project was to increase the size of the home’s deck so the homeowner could use it more frequently throughout the year. Thanks to the addition of a screened porch, we provided the homeowner with a newly shaded area along with a premium deck. We installed black AZEK Impressions rails on the porch and the deck. The aluminum rails feature a narrow, minimalist profile, and they help ensure the homeowner can enjoy an unobstructed view of the backyard. We also installed porch skylights, which allow natural light to enter the porch seamlessly.
During this project, we had to deal with some tricky rooflines and issues relating to venting the indoor fireplace into the new screened porch. To find a solution, we explored ways to vent the fireplace outside of the porch without sacrificing the porch’s aesthetic appeal. We ultimately built a wall to cover the vent and painted it to match the house, so it complements the porch.
A paver patio is extremely versatile and aesthetically pleasing, and it requires minimal maintenance. We added a paver patio that leads to the gate near the driveway, so the homeowner can access the screened porch without having to walk through the grass. The patio was constructed with Belgard Cambridge Cobble Appalachian concrete pavers that have an architectural look with gently rounded corners and a domed pillow-top surface. These pavers feature a combination of brown tones fitting nicely in the surrounding landscape and are both durable and adaptable.
Composite decking limits the risks of fading, staining, and scratching, and it won’t rot or crack. This type of deck is also insect-proof and splinter-free, which makes it a terrific option for homeowners who prioritize durability and low-maintenance.
For this Apex project, we installed a composite TimberTech Terrain deck in brown oak. The TimberTech Terrain deck includes a protective polymer shell and replicates the graining and beauty of natural wood. With a 30-year stain and fade warranty, we are confident it will continue to impress for an extended period of time.
