When you live on a beautiful lake in Steuben County’s “Land of 101 Lakes,” your deck is your front-row seat to all of that beauty. Our clients in Angola, IN, have the perfect spot on Lake Gage, and they have enjoyed their lakefront deck immensely. The time had come, however, to replace the home’s aging, wooden deck. At the same time, they were working with a landscape company to design and install new landscaping. The landscaper recommended Archadeck of Fort Wayne for the clients’ waterfront deck makeover.
Updating this Angola IN Deck Design
As these photos illustrate, deck styles have changed a great deal since the original deck was built here. Replacing the aging deck gave the homeowners an opportunity to update several aspects of their deck design, most notably the railing style. The results are stunning, and their view of the lake has improved beyond their expectations with a sleek railing that’s practically see-through. The low-maintenance railing we used here is Westbury vertical cable rail in Bronze Fine Texture.

Many times, homeowners don’t realize what a difference a new railing design can make. They’ve become accustomed to looking out through thick, clunky wooden railing pickets. Meanwhile, railing design has changed significantly over the years. Once you make a design change like this, you realize your old railings were getting in the way of your view. It’s almost like getting a new pair of glasses and suddenly being able to see everything you didn’t realize you were missing.

AZEK Decking, Perfect for Waterfront Settings
Another big change for these homeowners was their choice of low-maintenance decking. They were more than ready to dispense with wood deck maintenance—forever. For their new deck they chose the Coastline color in AZEK's Vintage Collection. AZEK Vintage PVC decking is an excellent choice for lakefront settings as well as poolside for several reasons. These boards rate high in slip resistance and they stay cooler to the touch than many decking options. They resist mold and other moisture damage and have UV protection to decrease the likelihood of fading.
The deck spans the width of the home and its design features picture-framing and a parting board. We used matching AZEK vertical board skirting. We built new stairs leading from the deck to the lake and a landing half-way down. The project features post and rail lighting that works together with their landscape lighting to create ambiance and increase safety and evening enjoyment.
These Angola, IN, Lake Gage homeowners are enjoying their stunning lakefront view – day and night! They are glad their landscaper recommended Fort Wayne deck builder Archadeck of Fort Wayne.
