Insights Into Questions Regarding Composite Decking How Long Does It Last?

Archadeck was originally founded in 1980 to build decks for new construction homes when outdoor living spaces were not yet a part of the everyday picture, so we solved that dilemma.

We started with wood decks back then until TimberTech brought innovative composite decking to the forefront in 1997. And what a gamechanger it was – and still is.

Since that time, composite decking by TimberTech remains a favorite deck building material choice for many Archadeck of Birmingham clients because it lasts over the long haul, with very little maintenance.

Wood Versus Composite Decking How Long Does It Last?

TimberTech Composite Decking by AZEK carries state of the art warranties to ensure longevity and functionality.

Backed by a 30-Year Limited Product Warranty and their 30-Year Fade & Stain Warranty, this composite decking will stand the test of time.

In fact, AZEK’s polyvinyl chloride PVC decking carries with it a 30 to 50 year warranty range!

Their point of view is, “When you build with the best products, backing them up is easy.”

When compared to decks built from wood, there are big differences. If well maintained – and that’s the significant part of this equation – wood decks can last between 15 to 20 years.

BUT that assumes that they are deep cleaned when needed, repaired as needed, stained, sealed, and protected from UV damage and moisture.

In point of fact, all wood – whether highly sought-after hardwoods like Ipe or common pressure-treated lumbers like cedar or pine – are made of organic material. That means they’re made of the literal core ingredient that mold and mildew like to eat – and without a protective composite cap, mold and mildew will get in.

Not true with composite decking.

With composite decking by TimberTech, it’s a whole new ballgame

Due to its fabrication, TimberTech composite decking is low maintenance, resistant to rot, resistant to insects and resistant to moisture with its capped decking technology which seals your deck boards from those nasty elements. As we say, “Better Tech Means Better Deck.”

How To Maintain Your Composite/Low Maintenance Deck So That It Lasts Over The Long Haul

When we say that composite decking is low maintenance, it truly is. But that doesn’t mean you totally ignore it.

It should be cleaned at least once a year with mild soap and water. Scrub it gently with a soft bristle brush or microfiber cloth to remove dirt and debris. Then rinse thoroughly with a garden hose. That’s it.

In between cleanings, be sure to sweep away leaves, dirt and organic material when it falls on your deck to preserve its appearance, safety and functionality.

Remember, low maintenance does not mean no maintenance.
