A Streamlined And Simplified Stairway Makes This Low Maintenance Deck A Pleasure To Enjoy

With an elegantly streamlined and simplified stairway, this Hoover, Alabama, backyard deck replacement welcomes family and guests to wide open spaces and cerulean blue trees.

The previous deck served the family well over the years; but the structure was starting to show the test of time and was looking weathered and tired. This deck was in serious need of an upgrade.

So when they called us for their complimentary deck replacement design consultation, we also discussed streamlining the deck redesign with a new approach for the stairway.

Instead of keeping the old footprint of a two-part stairway rise with a 90º right turn halfway from the ground, we kept the spirit of that approach with a wide stance and fewer steps to reach the new deck.

On the opposite right side approach, the entrance fluidity of this outdoor living space further increased with a single-rise stairway, allowing easy access from either side and creating a streamlined and simplified experience.

Outdoor Leisure Where The Living Is Truly Easy – And Much Easier Than Before

In addition to the convenience of having an entry to the new deck much more conveniently designed from the backyard, we added even more long-term convenience by creating the new structure with TimberTech decking in Brown Oak.

This easy to care for and maintain TimberTech Composite decking material from their Terrain Collection exudes a timeless, traditional wood look without the rigorous maintenance of wood.

Featuring a character-rich hand-scraped texture, its premium polymer capped composite boards deliver real wood aesthetics you’ll never have to sand, stain, or seal.

New Deck Balusters And A Drink Rail Complete The Redesign Blueprint

For pronounced architectural aesthetics, entry protection and entertaining convenience, we included black powder-coated aluminum balusters up the new stairways and around the entire deck itself.

The very popular and multi-functional composite rail cap has pressure-treated wood as its foundation with the same TimberTech Brown Oak on the exterior surface – keeping the entire deck design and color pallet cohesive.

Proof That Archadeck Is The Best Deck Builder In Birmingham

Expertise in deck design and construction is a culmination of a variety of factors. Archadeck of Birmingham checks all of the boxes in that regard with:

1. Proven Experience: When Archadeck was founded back in 1980, it was expressly to design and build decks. Forty-three years ago, home builders wanted to primarily focus on constructing the home you were promised with no outdoor bells and whistles. If you were lucky, they may have included a small concrete slab outside your kitchen door. Back then, outdoor living was not as important to builders as the house itself. But boy oh boy, have times changed – and Archadeck’s track record in creating new deck structures is validation of that fact.

2. Exceptional deck building material choices: For some Birmingham-area families, nothing beats the look and aroma of real wood, and they frequently choose pressure-treated pine lumber. When this is the case, it is important to note that wood decks require regular upkeep to ensure their good looks. Why? The main reason is that they are very reactive to the sun. If you are not diligent about the care and maintenance of pressure-treated pine, it will change color, crack, and warp. And then there is the possibility of splinters over time as the deck ages. Depending on the weather and environment, pressure-treated lumber decks may also be susceptible to mold, rot, and insect damage.

On the other side of the material choice equation, today Birmingham homeowners have alternative deck material options that truly celebrate the essence of outdoor living as maintenance is virtually minimal. In most cases, a quick sweep of a broom or spray from a garden house is all that is needed to keep the deck surface neat and clean.

Our most commonly used low maintenance decking materials are sustainable TimberTech decking and synthetic AZEK decking. Both look like real wood with beautiful grain and striations, but they are impervious to the problems that wood presents.

TimberTech is a composite decking material made of wood particles and high-density polyethylene with added compounds to resist rot, mold, and scratching.

It’s sister brand, AZEK, is totally synthetic, and consists of PVC only – no wood particles at all. But by looking at it, you’d never know it. Super durable, this low maintenance decking is made from high-performance and recycled polymers and is highly resistant to moisture damage like mold and mildew, and it won’t splinter, crack, cup, peel, or rot.

3. Original custom designs: With Archadeck, there is no such thing as a standard deck building blueprint of cookie-cutter designs.
