Combo spaces, such as this one, are what we sometimes refer to as a deluxe outdoor living space.

There is no denying the appeal of a deluxe outdoor living space. An outdoor living combination space (or deluxe outdoor living space), marries the function and aesthetic elements of two or more outdoor structures allowing them to function as one large space. You may also see these versatile spaces referred to as “outdoor living rooms” in the media. Archadeck of Birmingham has watched the popularity of this type of outdoor living environment soar to new heights over the past few years as homeowners have developed an increasing desire to transfer more of the assets of interior living to the outdoors.
To appreciate the concept of deluxe outdoor living, you only need to consider the parts of your home you use for relaxing, entertaining and other recreational activities: the living or family room, the dining room, the kitchen, a parlor, media room or playroom. Now, simply take those areas and think about moving their functions outside, and voilà… you have discovered the appeal of the deluxe outdoor living combination space!
With this in mind, Archadeck of Birmingham wants to share our most recent combo space with you…
These Shelby County, AL, homeowners are certainly reveling in the good news! Archadeck of Birmingham just completed transforming the existing open porch on their home into the ultimate deluxe outdoor living combination space!
This outdoor living combination project is much more than a mere open porch to sunroom conversion. We literally revamped the entire outdoor living area for these clients. The brick columns and roof remained as-is for this project, however, Archadeck of Birmingham replaced the deck structure of the previous open porch and added a new sunroom and open porch.
The large deck is what is referred to as a sleeper deck and it is positioned over the homeowner’s existing sloped concrete patio. A sleeper deck is when sleepers are placed between the deck surface and the ground or slab below. Sleepers help support the decking and allow moisture and air to flow below it. They also help stabilize the deck.
For the decking material the homeowners chose low-maintenance TimberTech Terrain: decking in silver maple. The new deck railing is pressure-treated pine with a matching TimberTech rail cap.
The transition from the new deck to the covered porch is flanked by 6 × 6 Cox support posts which add a substantial presence to the structure as a whole.
For the four-season room, we installed low E windows with transoms across the top and a sliding glass storm door. The interior of the new sunroom/4-season room is a dream come true with beautiful a ceramic tile floor that mimics the look of marble. The new outdoor room also features a charming beadboard ceiling and walls, and the space is fully conditioned to enjoy during every season.
As your Birmingham deck, porch and outdoor room builder, we know how perfect it feels when you create a combination of options side-by-side in your outdoor living space!
