Archadeck of Birmingham Creates At-Home Oasis for Mountain Brook, AL, Homeowners

If you look up “oasis” in the dictionary, you might find a picture of this home’s exquisite pool deck—actually, it’s several decks—and pergola we recently completed in Mountain Brook, AL.

First, you have to love a home that has an outdoor living space designed so that you can step through your glass doors directly onto your pool deck. How convenient! In this case, the pool deck meets the home’s back doors (in the center section) on both sides of the pool.

The pool is an inground above ground pool, sometimes called a semi-inground pool, made with beautiful Italian tile. We built a free-standing deck around the pool and extended the deck opposite the house to create a lounge area under a large pergola. Archadeck of Birmingham built the deck with pressure-treated pine and the pergola with cedar. The railing, which extends the length of the deck and the pergola, is all aluminum.

So you can get a sense of the size of this project, the pool is 17’-9″×51′. The pergola is 12′×29′. There are decks, each 12′×30′, on either side of the pool where the house extends beyond the center section. The deck also wraps around both sides of the home to create a 4′×60′ walkway along each side. Finally, we built a 15′×24′ deck on the side of the home not pictured here. The entire project is over 2,700 sq. feet of outdoor living bliss with the walkways unifying the space. For the pergola posts, which are cedar, we used 10×10′s instead of the typical 4×4′s or 4×6′s to give the pergola a really beefy appeal.

For comfort, ambiance and safety, we incorporated more than a few electrical features throughout the structure: sconces, spotlights, fans and lights on the steps leading up to the deck.

If you needed one more thing to convince you this home, with its multiple decks-within-a-deck, is paradise itself, then we will tell you that the home backs up to a beautiful golf course.
