Cedar Park TX Poolside Pavilion Provides Shaded Space to Relax and De-stress

This Cedar Park homeowner enlisted Archadeck of Austin to create a freestanding poolside pavilion with amenities for a restful, shaded place to de-stress, day or night. The home had a beautiful backyard patio with a pool but no shade. The patio and pool area were open to the sky. That seems wonderful until the calendar rolls around to warmer days when the sun can be brutal here!

The structure we’re referring to as a freestanding poolside pavilion is also called a freestanding covered patio. (While you can’t quite see the pool in these photos, you’ll have to trust us that it’s just outside the frame.) The new patio roof provides shade for a large portion of the patio, and there is plenty of patio area still open to the stars at night. This poolside pavilion includes an outdoor fireplace and outdoor kitchen. The patio floor is flagstone.

outdoor kitchenOne of our objectives, as always, was to make sure the new structure blended well with the existing design of the home’s exterior. It’s important to us, as professional designers, that the new addition look original to the home instead of tacked on at a later date. We accomplished that here by focusing on two specific elements in the home’s design: the dark trim under the eaves, and the beautiful nicotine limestone façade. The heavy nicotine limestone we selected for the outdoor fireplace and outdoor kitchen surround matches the home’s exterior stonework perfectly. And we matched the home’s dark trim throughout the covered patio, from the stained cedar pyramid columns up to the beams, ceiling and roof trim. We even painted the gutters and downspouts to match the same dark shade. If you look closely, you can see a dark-colored downspout at either end of the wall behind the outdoor fireplace.

Covered Patio Amenities Designed for Relaxation

Relaxing amenities? Yes, please! Our client chose a gas-burning outdoor fireplace and outdoor kitchen under the patio cover. To use the space most effectively, we designed the outdoor kitchen in two sections that flank the fireplace. The homeowner selected granite countertops in a dark shade that contrasts the limestone kitchen surround and blends well with the structure’s dark columns and trim. In addition to plenty of counterspace, the kitchen area features dual fridges, a wine cooler and an ice maker. All of this is just steps away from a comfy couch and an amazing swing – just what the doctor ordered!

More amenities? Of course! While the pavilion’s gable roof is open on the front end, the back is closed off for privacy with a floor-to-ceiling wall behind the outdoor fireplace. The space features a dark-tone ceiling fan for endless breezes and recessed can lighting for a soothing ambiance at night. We included extra electrical outlets for small appliances as needed.
