Garner Re-Decking Project and Ramp Addition Provides Increased Accessibility and Low-Maintenance Living

Garner Ramp with railingsWe were blessed with the unique honor of upgrading a screened-in porch into a three-season room for Jack and Alice Austin as part of our 2018 Salute to Service project. During this special build, we had the joy of meeting many of the Austin’s friends and family who came by to provide support and good cheer to the effort. Afterward, we had an opportunity to do a backyard project for one of the Austin’s friends in Garner.

This Garner homeowner wanted a new low-maintenance deck where her previous deck existed. She also wanted to add a ramp, stairs, and safety gates. Our solution was to re-deck her existing structure with TimberTech Terrain Silver Maple composite decking and Pecan composite parting boards. To finish the deck with a modern look, we added a solid board skirting in Pecan to match the deck’s trim.

Upgrading a pressure-treated wood deck with low-maintenance composite decking – called re-decking – is a very popular outdoor living project. It provides homeowners with a beautiful and safe new deck with the added benefit of no more staining, painting or sealing. Being able to reuse the underlying structure is also a cost-saving measure with a big return.

Upgrading Deck Functionality while Re-Decking

Re-decking provides an excellent opportunity to make certain other adjustments to an existing outdoor living space. For example, for this client, while replacing her deck boards with TimberTech Terrain composite decking, we added a simple ADA ramp to the side of the deck to provide easy access to the new space for all family members and visitors. We also added a short staircase on the back of the deck for direct access to the backyard for those who might want it.

Garner Re-DeckingIt was important to the homeowners that their new so safety was an important consideration in the renovation. Along with the Impression Express rails in black, we added matching Deckorator deck gates to both the ramp and the stairs, so that our client could manage access from the deck into the yard.

If your deck needs refurbishing, it is a great time to upgrade its look and functionality. Contact Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham today to discuss your re-decking options: 919-973-1523 We look forward to working with you!
