Reclaim Your Backyard with a Deck Replacement

Do you have an aging deck that keeps you from enjoying your backyard as often as you’d like? Let Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham renovate, re-deck, or replace your existing structure with a customized outdoor living space that can beautifully and safely meet your needs. Read further to learn how one Chapel Hill homeowner decided to breathe new life into his backyard by replacing an aging deck.

Chapel Hill Wood Deck Replacement

Wood decks built with pressure-treated pine remain a favorite of Triangle homeowners even though composite decking continues to grow in popularity. Many people choose this material because they love the natural look and feel of real wood. However, a downside is that the average life of a well-maintained wood deck is approximately 10-15 years, depending on weather and sun exposure.

This Chapel Hill client contacted us for help when his twenty-year-old wooden deck needed to be replaced. Initially he wanted to expand his deck, but he was not able to because of the impervious surface limits on his property. After evaluating the state of his existing structure, we discovered that he was not a candidate for re-decking either. This meant his home would need a full deck replacement, which our team designed and rebuilt, including the substructure, from the ground up.

Enhancements with a Deck Replacement

Raleigh Deck Replacement Project | Reclaim Your Backyard with a Deck ReplacementAlthough the homeowner could not expand his deck as he wanted, we were able to enhance his renovated deck with new features. For one, we added built-in deck benches near the hot tub area. These benches act as railings for the dual-level, low-to-grade, deck surrounding the tub. The benches also provide a convenient location for holding towels and provide seating for drying off.

Another enhancement was the addition of new wooden railings with sleek, black metal infill. This combination updates the design aesthetic and gives the space a fresh, contemporary look. The dark infill also helps to minimize any visual distraction of the fence, so that the homeowners may enjoy a more unobstructed view of the yard while enjoying their deck. Lastly, the new deck features a cascading multi-level staircase that allows dual access to the yard or the hot tub from the middle level.
