They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and this southern backyard transformation is all that and more.
Before our Archadeck design team arrived for this backyard makeover, they had a nice looking porch and deck. The problem is that it wasn’t very functional as the deck really only served as a walkway to the porch. And that was it. Just a walkway.
Making More Of An Outdoor Living Good Thing By Expanding An Existing Deck
The first motivation for this backyard deck expansion was two-fold –the family wanted to enjoy more deck space; and they also wanted a place to grill.
The second motivation was the need for more space on their porch, which was fine for just two, but not enough room when they had company.
So our team expanded their open porch and connected the other doorway with the porch, so that the family could move easily and conveniently move from one side to the other without going inside.
To achieve this outdoor living upgraded design, we started by eliminating the left stair – and then we rebuilt everything. This final design and construction reconfiguration was better for space and traffic flow.
Special Touches That Make Our Outdoor Living Transformations Something Really Special
In the process of the deck upgrade, we did have to add replacement posts and match them to the existing posts. As they were not standard posts, we had to custom duplicate them, which is just another example of the care and foresight we bring to every project we undertake.
As for the handsome flooring, we used TimberTech Sea Salt Gray decking. Its authentically real wood look with elegant color blending and straight grain made it a natural choice for this home improvement.
Furthermore, its superior moisture resistance with 3-sided polymer capping is backed by TimberTech’s protection promise with a 25-year product fade and stain warranty –among the finest in the business.
As for the railing that surrounds this new installation, our construction team matched it but changed it up ever so slightly for an enhanced aesthetic effect. We beveled the top to match. As for the wooden railing, it is all pressure treated.
For the skirting, we replaced the original diagonal lattice with new square lattice for a more desirable decorative effect.
