How do high demand and rising materials costs affect your outdoor living project?

Headlines are abuzz with sentiment over soaring fuel prices but building material costs remain in an upward trajectory.

If you have been planning your outdoor living project over the last year or two, higher building materials costs are nothing new. Fact is, we all hoped that post-pandemic times would lead us to unhampered supply chains and lower-priced building materials. If a new sunroom, porch, or deck is on the horizon for you in 2022, Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad encourages you to get your plans underway.

Plan to spend more for your outdoor living space, but how much more?

It used to make sense that if you were going to have to spend more money to build your outdoor living space, you might delay your project to save up additional funds. The problem with this idea in 2022, is that the longer you put off your building project, the more expensive it will be. You are probably familiar with the oft-referenced higher lumber prices, but what you might not realize is that the cost of aluminum windows and doors is up 13.5% too. This affects the cost of doors for our screened porches, 3-season rooms, and sunrooms. It also affects the price of aluminum railings. You can expect to pay 10-15% more for these items. Lumber costs are anywhere from $2-$12 more per board, per length and dimension. But that’s not all. OSB cost less than $7 per sheet back in 2019. At its highest, one sheet would run you more than $80. Even though that peak cost steeply decreased to $21 per sheet, it has now risen back up to $50.

Do not delay – lock in your project price.

Since materials costs are not expected to decrease anytime soon, and they will never be back to pre-pandemic pricing, we encourage you to act now. When you sign a contract with Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad, the contract price is guaranteed. No matter the type of project you plan to build, your bottom line will be affected. Delaying could be a gamble you cannot afford to take in the end.
