These homeowners had an existing wood deck, which they used as a grilling and seating area, but it was much too small. Having recently refurbished their deck, they were not keen on tearing it down to build all-new. And while they wanted to keep a traditional wood deck, they didn’t want a simple rectangular design. We confirmed that their existing structure was sound, which meant demolition was unnecessary, and worked with the clients to expand the overall size to achieve a custom aesthetic.

Our designers got to work, taking into consideration the homeowners’ wants, as well as minding setback requirements. The result is a modified L-shaped deck, with two defined living areas. The original deck offers ample grill space and a walkway with access to the yard. The extension provides a seating area, where the clients can enjoy their backyard expanse, and boasts a second stair to the backyard.
Is it possible to match a deck extension to the original?

Our designers and craftsmen created an extension, which beautifully complements the original deck – perhaps most notably in the way our standard wood deck railing so closely matches the original. To achieve a cohesive aesthetic, the homeowners will paint the extension.
