Wakefield Deck Builder Showcase: Before & After Project

The before photo tells you everything you need to know. This home boasted a beautiful and big backyard, connected it to the home with a small concrete patio slab. These homeowners knew they could get more from their backyard; they just needed a Wakefield deck builder who could help them see what was possible.

That's where our 3D design process changed the conversation.

Before Breaking Ground

After meeting with these clients and understanding what they envisioned for their new deck, we set out to create their ideal deck design. To help make it easier to imagine how the deck would look in real life, we created a 3D rendering. Doing this made it possible for the homeowners to clearly see how a multi-level composite deck would look and feel. They could see how people could flow from the back door, how a dedicated dining zone could seat their whole family, and how a separate lounge area would work for relaxing. The rendering even showed their future paver patio with a fire pit that would anchor the far end of the space.

Our custom design process starts with visualization. It’s the easiest way to take the guesswork out of a major outdoor living investment.

Hiring Archadeck as Their Wakefield Deck Company

For this build, the composite decking used is Deckorators Venture composite in Sand Bar—a warm, neutral tone that complements their home’s existing siding. We wanted to make the space feel a bit bigger, so we ran the boards diagonally. We also used hidden fasteners to make the deck feel more cohesive.

For contrast, we used Deckorators Slate as a picture frame around the deck perimeter, the stairs, the planters, and the rail caps. That two-tone detail provides additional visual interest that ties the entire design together.

As for the planters, those were a specific request. The homeowners wanted something functional, not just decorative, so we added interior shelves. That way, when it’s time to do some planting, they can do so without working from the bottom of a deep box.

The railings are a TimberTech drink rail, an added functional feature that is wide enough to set down drinks. Black aluminum balusters, white PVC posts, and white lattice skirting lay below. The whole color scheme ties together: warm decking, dark accents, and white trim.

One thing you won't see in the photos: we used helical piers instead of concrete footings. They screw directly into the ground, so there's no digging, no concrete trucks, and no torn-up yard. The homeowners came home to a clean job site instead of a mud pit that will remain bare for months as grass slowly regrows.

Looking for a “Wakefield Deck Company Near Me”?

Vision is an important part of building a great outdoor space, but local knowledge is also irreplaceable. For a project like this, you need to understand Massachusetts building codes, soil conditions, and the neighborhood itself. All of these factors combine in interesting ways, and it changes how we design and build. That’s why it pays to work with a Wakefield deck company that knows what the inspectors look for and what materials hold up best through New England year after year.

If you walked out these homeowners’ back door now, you’d find yourself stepping onto a completely different property. There’s space for morning coffee and family dinners. There’s space for entertaining around the table—all of it connected, all of it functional, all of it built to last.
