Why We Use Superior PT Wood Decking for Our Decks

There’s no such thing as standard when it comes to our custom wood decks – unless, of course, you count our standard of high-quality materials.

At Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad, we believe that even the smallest details make all the difference. From design to completion, every decision we make is all about delivering a wood deck you’ll love and be able to enjoy for years to come. That’s why we recommend C and Better (C&Btr) pressure-treated southern yellow pine (SYP) to our deck construction clients. Though still pressure-treated wood, this is a higher-grade material you won’t find at the big-box stores many other deck contractors rely on.

PT Wood Decking, C and Better Lumber

What Is C&Btr Pressure-Treated Lumber?

C&Btr is a premium lumber grade specifically chosen for its beautiful appearance and superior quality. While other contractors often use number one or prime grade SYP, which meet basic structural standards, C&Btr goes further in aesthetics and finish.

This grade is primarily clear, meaning it’s free of most knots, checks, and splits, with only a few small, tight knots or surface checks being allowed. C&Btr’s natural golden color makes it perfect for color-staining or natural sealer finishes, providing a rich, beautiful deck right from the start.

How This PT Wood Decking Compares to Other Decking Options

What specifically differentiates C and Better wood decking from other wood and synthetic decking options?

  • Versus number one and prime SYP: Structurally similar, but C and Better lumber has far fewer visual imperfections, which gives your deck a smoother, more refined appearance.
  • Versus Composite Decking: C and Better wood costs less than even the most affordable composite options while still offering a high-end look.
  • Versus Exotic Hardwoods: Premium woods like Ipe or teak can cost as much as the most expensive composite decking brands and lines therein. Exotic hardwoods also require all the maintenance of natural wood. C and Better wood decking provides a stunning natural look without the sky-high price.

Performance and Maintenance of C and Better Wood

C&Btr performs just like other southern yellow pine decking when it comes to strength and durability. Like any natural wood, it will weather over time based on how well it’s maintained, and the level of exposure it has to the elements. The difference is that C and Better wood starts out with a naturally beautiful, higher-grade finish, meaning your deck will look better for longer if properly maintained.

We recommend following best practices for staining, sealing, and seasonal care to keep your deck looking its best for years.

Locally Available, Superior by Choice

While C&Btr is not exclusive to any one vendor and is readily available in our region, not all Greensboro deck contractors choose to use it. At Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad, we recommend it, because we believe our clients deserve the best. It costs a little more than lesser-graded southern yellow pine, but the long-term beauty and satisfaction it delivers make it worth every penny.
