Composite Deck with Screened Porch and Stone Pillars

An Outdoor Living Dream Space Worthy of the Name

Our team love to design and build outdoor spaces – big or small. However, we do have a soft spot for the projects that really let us show off our talents! This home, just outside of Halifax, was no exception.

The homeowners were looking to create their outdoor living dream space. They wanted to maximize the use of space while enjoying the stunning water views. Our designers worked closely with the clients to create a truly one-of-a-kind, multi-level deck, screened porch and private curved balcony – to suit all their needs.

We paid close attention to detail and worked to blend the deck seamlessly with the existing home. Starting with a solid foundation, we created stability with concrete columns. Each footing was wrapped with stone veneer to exactly match the existing home and retaining wall.

Multi-level deck

The 3-level TimberTech composite deck transitions from dining level to lounging with a fire-feature. In-stair lighting helps guide you from each level. Built-in planters soften edges and provide flowery pops of colour. The two-tone deck and railing play up contrasting tones and visual interest. Over-sized, comfortable furniture invite you to relax with a book or a glass of wine and cozy blanket.

This property has an amazing view and we didn’t want to spoil it with thick or bulky railings. We installed a Timbertech composite railing system with glass panels so sight-lines wouldn’t be blocked.

Deck and seating area

In any Canadian backyard, there are always pesky mosquitoes and black flies or rainy Sunday afternoons. Their new screen room creates additional entertainment space protected from the elements. The large screened windows allow natural light to flow into the room and the attached home. A custom built corner fireplace ensures this room can be used well into the chilly fall evenings.

3-season room

From the up-stairs balcony, you can really get an appreciation for the beautiful Nova Scotian views. Life looks pretty good from the top! Once again, we installed a composite and glass railing on this new deck to allow uninterrupted views.

The unique and cozy curved balcony off of the master suite gives the homeowners a private space to enjoy their morning coffee. One of the perks of composite decking is that it can be curved to create beautiful soft edges.
