Hammonds Plains Lakefront Sanctuary:
A Custom Healing Hut Escape

Tucked away along the serene shores of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, this project began with a unique vision for a dedicated lakeside retreat. The goal was to create a specialized healing hut that felt like a natural extension of the landscape while providing a private, three-season sanctuary for relaxation and wellness. We envisioned a structure that would capture the tranquil essence of the water and provide a seamless transition between the main residence and the lakefront.
Building so close to the water’s edge presented immediate logistical challenges, from strict site restrictions to the complexities of navigating the rocky subsoil. Our team had to meticulously plan the footprint to respect the natural shoreline while ensuring the structure remained rock-solid against Nova Scotia's varying weather patterns. The proximity to the lake required a high level of environmental awareness and technical precision during the initial staging and setup phase.

To provide a stable foundation without massive excavation, our team professionally installed six engineered metal helical piers to anchor the structure deeply into the earth. As construction progressed, we stayed agile and quickly pivoted when it came time to refine the design, revising several electrical components and updating the window and door selections to better suit the client's needs. By managing these changes proactively, we ensured the project stayed on track while delivering a highly customized final product that exceeded the initial expectations.
The technical execution involved meticulously framing a 12-by-14-foot structure designed to withstand the elements while maintaining a light, airy feel. We utilized high-quality materials including a pressure-treated floor system and an architectural asphalt shingle roofing system to ensure long-term durability. The interior was finished with luxury vinyl tile flooring, natural knotty pine, and a stunning cathedral ceiling that highlights the precision of our carpentry team.

The final structure is a testament to quality craftsmanship, featuring a striking footprint that feels remarkably spacious thanks to the soaring tongue and groove knotty pine interior walls and ceilings. These warm pine finishes create an inviting glow that pairs beautifully with the expansive, unobstructed sightlines provided by the custom fixed and trapezoid gable-end windows. The custom step provides a durable and elegant transition to the existing waterfront deck, completing the aesthetic. This new addition has completely transformed the property, offering a sophisticated and tranquil space where the owners can now enjoy the beauty of the Nova Scotia shoreline in total comfort and style.
