Within the Brook Highland neighborhood in North Shelby County, Alabama, overlooking the glistening waters of a lake and infinity pool, there was a deck. It was old. Very old. And it was made from wood.
To start this lakeside outdoor living space re-creation, our team expanded the original deck space to square it off making it more functional and more attractive.
After removing the decks old wood flooring, we installed TimberTech Terrain Brown Oak composite decking as its classic earth tone hues range from solid to moderately varied and create a timeless look. It’s complex, rugged wood grain pattern is designed to camouflage everyday wear and tear on this virtually carefree outdoor living material. Designing this space with practical, low-maintenance decking proved to be the perfect combination of value and performance.
For the gabled roof and to compliment the composite deck base, our design team chose rustic cedar for the wall posts and rails, adding texture and dimensional interest.
But the real star of this outdoor living showcase is the view out into the backyard, through those two arches vistas, centered with a double treat for the eyes and ears.
On a stacked faux stone wall, the clients placed a large format outdoor living TV above a vintage mantel. The mantel served as the crowning touch above the custom gas fireplace we designed, a true thing of beauty crackling against the midnight sky.
VOILA – A DOUBLE DECKER OUTDOOR LIVING SPACE IS BORN
Incorporating a much-needed improvement – both functionally and aesthetically – to the downstairs outdoor space, we screened in the lower level area over the existing concrete patio, adding stairs and a new landing to the rear landscape and gardens.
So, there you have it. Outdoor living twice as grand. Twice as functional. And twice as perfect, as only this Birmingham deck builder can dream up.
