History of Myers Park
The lineage of this vintage Charlotte neighborhood began as the brainchild of city planner John Nolen of Boston. In 1911 he provided the initial street plan, planting plans and many of the individual residential landscape designs for the area. His plans were so widely received that Nolen went on to become one of the top planners in the nation with bragging rights to over 400 projects from coast to coast.

In 1915, Earle Sumner Draper entered the picture as Nolen’s assistant on the Myers Park project. Draper is known as one of the most important planners in the Southeast during the 1st half of the 20th century. This is in part to not only his work alongside Nolen in creating Myers Park, but moving on to become the 1st head planner for the Tennessee Valley Authority and the acting director of the Federal Housing Administration.
