North Shelby County Deck And Porch Get A Savvy Makeover!

When Archadeck of Birmingham comes on the scene, you know the results are destined to be noteworthy! This is certainly the case when these North Shelby county, AL, homeowners reached out to us to update their existing deck and screened porch. They turned to Archadeck to not only redeck their existing wooden deck, but to give the deck and porch an air of rustic, farmhouse inspired charm!

As you can see from the images, this wasn’t your basic, run-of-the-mill update. Archadeck of Birmingham did redeck the clients’ existing pressure-treated wooden deck to give it a longer life, however, we took it a step further. We added cedar posts and rails to both the deck and screened porch area.

Instead of updating the deck railing infill using pressure-treated wood, the homeowner’s chose galvanized livestock panels. These panels are also sometimes referred to as “hogwire” panels and are an up-and-coming design element many savvy homeowners are integrating into their outdoor living spaces.

These panels not only help give a deck a rustic, farmhouse look, they are also durable, low maintenance and best of all – they don’t block the view! We used black hogwire panels too, in order to provide a contrast to the warm, rich wooden tones of the cedar.

In some cases, an outdoor living space’s style expires before its useful life comes to an end. If that is the case at your home, it may be time to redeck and/or upgrade to a more current look or railing style. A well-maintained wooden deck may have a lifespan of 30 years. If your deck is 20 years old but features big, clunky wood railings with wide balusters, why wait 10 more years to update? A fresh, updated space and new railing system will do wonders for your home. Replacing a bulky wood railing system with today’s thin cable railings, or the galvanized livestock panels used on this project – or even replacing balusters (pickets) with glass panels – will greatly improve your view. You’ll also be amazed at how much more you’ll enjoy your back yard when you bring its style up to date.
